Healthy Substitute To Potato Chips
Hi Everybody! It is Monday and I’m back in the kitchen!
Right now I have a unique, healthy substitute to chips! I love banana chips, and any other kind of chips for that matter. But as we all know, those involve frying (booo)! So, I’m going to show you how you can get innovative with plantains!
Plantains look a bit like bananas, but are very distinctive. They seem to be firmer and lower in sugar than bananas. Plantains are a staple food in tropical regions of the world, prepared much the same way as sweet potatoes by steaming, grilling, boiling, or frying.
You will find a few different methods you can prepare them and believe it or not, you can make them sweet or salty, they taste wonderful in either case. They are truly easy to make. Just skin them, as I demonstrate in the video (trust me, it doesn’t work in the event you try to peel them like a banana), then slice them nice and thin. Next, spray them with a thin coat of unprocessed coconut oil and season them with cinnamon or season salt and bake them at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Then, flip them and bake for an additional of 5 minutes. Watch them closely, they burn quickly!
They are best eaten immediately, but they do hold for a couple of days (they just don’t taste quite as crunchy). Below you will find more info on plantains that I thought you’d find interesting.
