Have your knees bent at 90 while you are lying on your back and having your feet flat on the floor. Then have your bum raised off the floor while you lower your back. Try to raise it as high as you can. These are pretty good exercises for your abs, as you will be contracting them to have your lower back pushed towards the floor. In the top position, have 1 leg straightened and hold it like that for 10 seconds. Then engage into 5 sets of 10 seconds each. After this, use your other leg to do full range reps.<br />

<p>The most common type of abdominal exercise that most people know how to do is the crunch. Crunches are effective at toning the upper abdomen, but often don&#8217;t reach the entire core the way other exercises can. They can also cause injury if done incorrectly.</p>
<p>An exercise referred to as the bicycle is considered the best ab exercise by the American Council of Exercise. This is a variation of the standard crunch where the entire body is engaged&#8211;the legs are raised from the ground and moved in a cycling motion as the upper body performs a crunch. This exercise incorporates a twisting version of the typical straight up and down crunch that is done by clasping the hands behind the head, then pointing each elbow, one at a time, across the body while the head and shoulders are lifted.</p>
<p>Crossed-leg crunches are also more effective than the typical variety. These are performed with your legs straight in the air, and crossed at the ankles. This position is held with the lower body as the upper body comes up into a crunch. <p>When working out you must be able to feel the muscles working, and the lower abs should be the main muscle group felt. If you do not feel those abs working or begin to feel other muscles taking over, such as the back, then you are likely not doing them right. However, there are times when you suddenly stop feeling them working, and this may be caused by fatigued muscles and is a sign to stop.</p>
<p>Many people do not like to do ab work because it hurts their neck or their back. Usually, that is because they are doing a workout that is beyond their ability. If the abdominal muscles are not strong enough to perform an exercise, other muscles will try to take over, and that is when you can hurt yourself. <p>The most important thing during routines, especially in ab routines, is to breathe. Many forget this and hold their breath during the movements, and may not even notice it. It is important to control your breathing when you work your abdominals. Exhale as you perform the move and tighten the abs, and then inhale as you come out of the move.</p>
<p>Strong abs do more than give you a great stomach, they also support your back and make your posture straighter. When your abs are strong, you lessen the risk of injury doing everyday activities.
